The science of psychology has undergone a significant change in the last 50 years and has emerged as a complex discipline that manifests itself with the diversity of its subfields and specializations. Despite this fact and increasing interest, it is observed that there is no significant change in the public's understanding of psychology and psychologists. Today, “psychologist” is still understood as “clinical psychologist” who deals only with mental health issues and psychotherapy. Therefore, how psychology is defined today is more important than ever. “Psychology is a branch of science that studies mental states and processes in order to understand the perceptions, cognitions, emotions and attitudes that guide behavior at many different levels, as well as their functions and basic mechanisms.” The science of psychology overlaps with many disciplines from biological sciences to social sciences, and with this feature, it has a unifying and interdisciplinary nature. TEDU Department of Psychology provides education with its basic mission of continuously improving the learning and application opportunities it offers to its students, in line with the contemporary perspective that psychology is an integrative and “central science at the intersection of sciences” and in line with the dynamic and interdisciplinary approach of today's psychology.
The TEDU Department of Psychology, which educates students with a well-equipped faculty in practice and research, has met the quality criteria among psychology departments in Turkey, according to the "Field-Based Competence Analysis Report of Universities" published by TUBITAK in 2021, which includes the comparative evaluation of the performances of universities on the basis of research fields. ranked 5th by
Accredited by the Turkish Psychological Association, TEDU Psychology Undergraduate Program graduates its students with a functional content knowledge, an advanced understanding of the basic sub-fields of psychology, psychological literacy, strong scientific and research infrastructure, and basic practice skills that they can use in very different working environments. These acquisitions prepare students to work competently in a wide variety of business environments or for graduate education in any field of psychology or related fields.
The active and learning-centered education approach of TEDU Department of Psychology will not only provide you with a solid knowledge of psychology, but also an educational environment that will enable you to develop yourself in different directions, and will provide you with some skills that will give you superiority in your working life after graduation. ; It is provided through projects and group works in the lessons, in-class discussions and presentations, guest speakers, on-site observation and research. For these purposes, our Department uses various research and educational environments for our students.
Although TEDU Psychology Department is a relatively newly established department, it guarantees the quality of the education it will provide by taking TED's history and values, TEDU resources, mission and vision behind it, and this presence supports its future hopes and plans.
