Developmental Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology Master's Programme with Thesis

Awarded Degree: Specialised Degree in Clinical Psychology (MSc)

Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, a speciality of psychology and a sub-field of clinical psychology, is a field in which scientific knowledge is produced and used for the assessment of child mental health, prevention and psychotherapy of childhood mental health problems. The main topics of interest in this field are the determination of basic psychological needs in infancy, childhood and adolescence; the effects of family and other social environments on the child's psychosocial and behavioural adaptation, cognitive development and health status; the development and implementation of psychological services to be provided to infants, children and adolescents within their own social contexts.

With the increasing awareness of the long-term negative effects of child mental health problems on individuals, families and societies, both the "field of child mental health" and the training of specialists to work in this field have become increasingly important all over the world.

TEDU Developmental Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology Master's Programme (GOKÇEP), the first programme in Turkey to offer a diploma in this specific field, aims to train qualified specialist psychologists to work in the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology in academic or applied settings. The programme, which brings together clinical, developmental and family sub-fields of psychology, is structured within the framework of a multidisciplinary approach.  The programme, which is based on the discipline of Clinical Psychology, offers a specific and comprehensive education to provide students with knowledge and skills in the field of child and adolescent mental health.  The "development-oriented" nature of the programme ensures that it is enriched by the knowledge, methods and perspectives provided by developmental science. Family psychology, as a complementary component, adds to the programme the basic contextual dimension in the understanding, assessment, prevention and treatment of childhood mental health and disorders.

Programme:

The programme is based on the Scientist-Practitioner Model. This graduate education model, also known as the Boulder Model, aims to educate students both as scientists who produce knowledge and as "practitioners" who can transfer the scientific knowledge they have acquired or produced to practice. The curriculum, which is based on this model, includes theoretical and practice-based courses, internships and supervision, as well as courses that convey the scientific method.

EuroPsy fulfils the requirements for the European Certificate in Psychology. EuroPsy is a professional certification developed by the European Federation of Psychologists (EFPA) to demonstrate that competence and expertise have been achieved according to European quality standards for psychologists.

It is compatible with TEDU Quality Assurance System. Students are provided with the opportunity to deepen and develop their knowledge and skills in specific areas of interest through the elective courses they will take. Students in the Master's programme can follow one of the following two areas of concentration with the elective courses they will take in line with their academic and professional goals, or they can enrich their curriculum by taking courses from both areas.
